To hear Jay-Z tell it, "PopoZao" sealed the deal.
The rapper-turned-president of Def Jam Record inked dancer-turned-rapper Kevin Federline to a five-album record deal today, saying the husband of Britney Spears could challenge hip-hop's greatest lyricists.
"What can I say, that "PopoZao" track is just FIRE," Hova said. "I knew I had to sign K-Fed the minute I heard that 'Brazilian a**-shaker.'" Federline took the signing in stride, saying that it was about time his bonafied street cred landed him on hip-hop's most recognized label.
"My sh** is fire, yo," he said. "I can't wait to get in the studio and bust rhymes with some of the greats in the game."
He might get his chance soon, as Jay-Z said he expects to record a posse cut with K-Fed, himself, and Nas, the veteran Queens rapper with whom he quelled a longtime beef by inking him to Def Jam.
"This is a new paradigm for hip-hop," he said.
