The buzz around Miami rapper Rick Ross’ ode to yayo pushers, "Hustlin’," has Def Jam President Jay-Z quite eager to expose Ross’ Mi-a-mi to the masses.
"Everybody is talking about the cars and the water. He's showing you the [darker] side of Miami," said Jay-Z. "Hustlin’" has landed on various new mix tapes and Def Jam plans to capitalize with a video for the song. "We're shooting that video right now, and that's an urgent project for us," said Jay.
A while back Memphis Bleek alerted President Jay to Ross’ popularity in the Miami underground, then "Hustlin’" prompted a bidding war that eventually brought the Shaft look-a-like to Def Jam. "He had this record poppin' in Miami, and I was like, 'Oh, that's the kid!’, said Jay. And according to him Ross is sitting on more hits. "He's showing you the [darker] side of Miami. That's his whole approach to it." Rick Ross’ Def Jam debut, Career Criminal, is slated for a summer release.
