Timbo Lands Dealo

Source:BS

Hip-hop producer/artist Timbaland just landed a deal that will have him creating new music, but not for an album - instead for cellphones.
Mobile content provider, Zingy, has teamed up with MTV to launch a wireless franchise called "Made Hear: Original Ringtones."

Via the exclusive deal, Timbaland will create a variety of mobile content including ringtones, voice ringtones, voice ringback tones, voicemail greetings, screensavers and wallpapers.

"Our agreement with Timbaland is evidence that the mobile phone has become a legitimate platform for music distribution, so much so that artists are creating music specifically for this medium," commented Andy Volanakis, COO of Zingy. "Now that ground has been broken, I anticipate we will sign several similar agreements in the coming months. We have only scratched the surface on what artists will begin to deliver on mobile."

Although, Timbaland will be the first producer to create a ringtone album, Zingy has announced agreements with Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, D12, 50 Cent and Aaliyah as well.

MTV plans to reach out to more artists and producers in the near future, and will also launch an on-air television and online promo campaign in support of the new project.

After the exclusive window with MTV, the Timbaland mobile content will be available through Zingy's vast distribution network of carriers and media partners including AOL, Boost Mobile, Cingular, Microsoft's MSN, Nextel, Sprint PCS and T-Mobile, and its own Web site, Zingy.com.

Timbaland mobile content will retail between $1.49 to $2.99 per download
