Jay-Z vs. Nas
Source:sohh
This week saw the 2005 re-match between cold war enemies Jay-Z and Nas along with another strong southern debut. With heavy promotion from MTV and Warner Bros Records, Jay-Z and Linkin Park's Collision Course is off to a fast start and on pace to sell up to 350,000 records according to early reports. On the other side, Nas' Streets Disciple, featuring his father Olu Dara, is poised to reach between 225,000 to 250,000 CD's. Meanwhile, it appears the self-proclaimed "king of the south", T.I., will sell up to 200,000 copies of his Urban Legend.
With the fourth quarter in full swing, Hip-Hop LP's are facing strong opposition from Rock, Country and Pop releases and only accounting for 16% of the charts. Leading the Hip-Hop pack, Eminem has come down from his two-week reign with a healthy 46% chute. In its third week, Encore slips one spot to #2, but still sells 471,000 CD's according to Nielsen's Soundscan.
