Saigon Calls for a Gang Truce

Saigon has been dropping a slew of mixtapes since he was released from prison in 1999 in hopes to promote himself and he has done just that. He has made a name for himself and even has been named one "Top Artists To Watch in 2004" by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Now, being that Saigon has been through a violent past, he is urging peace between rival Blood and Crip gangs with his 1st single "The Color Purple," off of his upcoming debut titled Dear Black Music.

The once prison inmate is urging gang members to put down their colors and stop killing each other and unite. With lyrics like, "If you a true to life thug/ Sweep that shit under the rug/ And give each other a hug/ Red and blue make purple/ The color of love." Ironically, the song contradicts some of his past lyrics filled with violence and murder, but with the bad comes the good. And that is exactly what this 1st single is about.

The words of "The Color Purple" are painfully true and Saigon doesn't hold back on his distaste for rappers that promote gang activity and influencing the youth that looks up to them.

"There are a lot of rappers now who promote gang activity," Saigon explains. "Young rap punks, who never really put in any work in the street, come in the game and promote it. Then these little kids who don't have nothing and really look up to these motherf--kers take it and run with it."

He goes on to say, "Be responsible for your people. There's gonna be a time when people are looking back in retrospect at the reason why we're in these fucked up conditions. There's no right way to do something wrong."

Saigon plans to hit the streets of New York, LA, Chicago and other cities to talk to the kids in the hood in an attempt to bring about real change.

Recently, Saigon released his latest mixtape Warning Shots, showcasing more of his rapping ability. Resulting in getting the covers of Elemental and Murder Dog magazines for the buzz he is creating for himself. And mentioned several times in The Source, XXL, Don Diva and Rolling Stone.

He is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album Dear Black Music, which will feature production from Just Blaze, Alchemist and Scram Jones.
