TRIPLE-PLATINUM & WEST PREPARES FOR USHER TREK
NEW YORK, NY - July 27, 2004 - Just as the three controversial, groundbreaking videos for Kanye West's new anthem "Jesus Walks" have propelled the third single from his double-platinum debut The College Dropout to the top of the charts, MTV has honored his "All Falls Down" clip with 4 Video Music Awards nominations: Best Male Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best New Artist In A Video and Breakthrough Video.
Kanye, who won Best New Artist at the recent BET Awards and wowed audiences nationwide with a stunning performance of "Jesus Walks" to open the show, has been announced among the first crop of performers for the VMAs as well, set to be held in Miami's American Airlines Arena on August 29th.
With guest appearances in 2 other categories - Best R&B Video for Brandy's "Talk About Our Love" and the MTV2 Award for Twista's "Slow Jamz" - Kanye joins the ranks of his friend, mentor and label chief Jay-Z, who topped all artists with 6 nominations for his "99 Problems" clip.
West will take a momentary break from his 2-month nationwide trek with Usher's "The Truth Tour" to perform at the VMAs. The Truth Tour kicks of August 5th is Hampton, VA.
