Another Roc-A-Fella MC Battle

When it comes to hip-hop music, Roc-a-fella Records always have their
eyes and ears peeled to the streets. Their staff stays on the grind
exploring fresh and innovative ideas to deliver to their loyal fans.
Thus, Roc-a-fella Records and the City Universities of New York
(CUNY) are collaborating on a ROC/CUNY MC Battle.

Currently 12 different CUNY schools are set to participate in this
event. In the month of April each school will have their own battle
with their own students. Then the respective winning MCs from each
school will meet May 1 at Hunter College for the finals. At the
finals every CUNY MC will battle and eventually one will be crowned
CUNY MC Champion. Damon Dash will serve as one of the special guest
judges. In addition at the finals in Hunter College, one surprise Roc-
a-fella artist will perform as well.

Nevertheless, the champion MC will receive $500 in cash or the
individual can choose to put the money towards his or her tuition.
The champion will also receive three Rocawear outfits, a pair of S.
Carter sneakers and a trophy.

Like any other battle, this battle comes equipped with its own set of
rules. For example, only CUNY students can register and compete in
the battle. Every MC must stand toe-to-toe during the battle. Any
profanity or physical contact will result in an automatic
disqualification. Each MC will have a 60 second time limit, but in
the finals each MC will have two rounds of 60 seconds each. Only Roc-
a-fella instrumentals will be played and each school's radio station
personalities will take the roles as judges.

"This is the first time Roc-a-fella is holding this kind of event,
but there is no limit to the kind of success it can have," The Roc's
National Director of College Promotions, Raymond "Chiko" Lozada
said. "The Roc is trying to staple its brand on college events
everywhere."

The ROC is also in talks with MTV2 to have the CUNY MC Battle
broadcasted. An event like this is just another reason why the ROC
remains one of the most influential hip-hop companies in existence.
