THE ROC CONTINUES TO DOMINATE AS YOUNG GUNZ JOIN KANYE WEST AT TOP OF THE CHARTS
"TOUGH LUV" BOWS AT #3, "COLLEGE DROPOUT" HOLDS AT #2 FOR 3RD WEEK
"With CD's from Kanye West and Jay-Z still high on the charts, Roc-A-Fella Records attempts to solidify its dominance with "Tough Luv" from the Young Gunz." - New York Times
"With Jay-Z retired, Roc-A-Fella is turning to a new generation of stars. Kanye West has quickly established himself with College Dropout, and now Philadelphia's Chris and Neef are ready for their shot at the spotlight. It's that family support that helps the Gunz stay on target." - USA Today
NEW YORK, NY - March 3, 2004 - After an astounding debut from hip-hop sensation Kanye West last month, Roc-A-Fella Records has continued its chart dominance this week with a strong debut from the Young Gunz. Released on February 24th, The Philly duo's debut Tough Luv sold over 127,000 copies last week to bow on the national album charts at #3, just shy of label-mate West, who moved another 132,000 units to approach a grand total nearing 770,000.
"Approaching 10 years in the business, it's a great feeling to still be so hot on the charts," remarked Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash. "The Roc has proven it can survive Jay-Z's retirement, and it's only the first quarter. We're going to have a very big year. I want to congratulate the Young Gunz and Kanye West, and personally thank all the fans who've given us so much support."
"No Better Love," the smash first single off Tough Luv, has broken into the Top 40, and is well on it's way to matching the success of last year's Grammy-nominated banger "Can't Stop, Won't Stop," establishing the Young Gunz as proven hitmakers. Stay tuned.
