JAY-Z BLACK ALBUM "THINK BLACK" PRESS RELEASE
THINK BLACK
(New York, NY; October 23, 2003) Jay-Z has completed recording his final
solo album, The Black Album. Due out on the exclusive release date of
November 28th, Black Friday, the album is the culmination and completion
of Jay's journey, which began with his classic debut release Reasonable
Doubt.
The first single, "Change Clothes," produced by The Neptunes and
featuring Pharrell, will be available on AOL on Friday, October 24th at
12:01am for fans to take a first listen. All radio formats will receive
the first single on Monday, October 27th at 6:00pm (EST).
The Black Album features production by Kanye West, Eminem, Timbaland,
The Neptunes, Rick Rubin, DJ Quik and Just Blaze.
Jay-Z officially announced his retirement on September 24, 2003 at
Madison Square Garden. The Garden is the site of the beginning of Jay-
Z's victory lap. The concert, which sold out in four (4) hours, is the
first in a series of appearances in support of this last release. In
addition to the Black Album, Jay-Z has planned to release a black
version of his signature sneaker, S.Carter. In early 2004, Jay-Z will
complete his victory lap with the release of his autobiography, The
Black Book, which he is writing in conjunction with Dream Hampton.
In addition to his success as a musical artist, Jay-Z has multiple
businesses including Armadale Vodka, Roc-A-Fella Records, Rocawear and
Roc-A-Fella Films. In addition, Jay-Z is the only non-athlete to have a
signature sneaker line with Reebok's S. Carter line. He is also
responsible for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund (scholarship fund for
high school students in Brooklyn), The Annual Jay-Z Toy Drive and Team
Roc.
Jay-Z has released 9 consecutive platinum-plus albums in 7 years and has
sold over 20 million units. Jay-Z has been nominated for and the
recipient of numerous Grammy Awards, as well as Billboard Music Awards,
Radio Music Awards and MTV Music Awards. Jay-Z has consistently topped
Billboard's list as the #1 Rap Artist, #1 R&B Mainstream Artist and the
#1 Crossover artist.
