Jigga Calls It A Day

Jay-Z will definitely retire after the release of his new album, 'The Black Album', next month.

Speaking to Billboard magazine, the Jigga talked about his reasons for stepping down after a decade at the top and explained that he was set to dedicate himself to working behind the scenes.

"I always had the dream of moving over to the business side," he said.

"In the beginning, my plan was to only make one album, but then the business kicked in, and we got a co-venture deal with Def Jam. I was the only artist we had, so in order to do that, I had to keep recording."

After sales of 18 million albums, Jay-Z will concentrate on developing new talent via his Roc-a-Fella label as well as continuing to expand the brand.

To coincide with the release of 'The Black Book', Jay-Z will be out on the road in the US and he will launch a limited edition S. Carter Reebok trainer and his autobiography, The Black Book.

"Jay deserves to have the biggest and the best send-off," said Roc-a-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash. "He has done so much for hip-hop that I want to make his departure as easy and effort-free as possible."

As previously reported on dotmusic, Jay-Z has lined up a host of top name producers to work on the album including Timbaland, Kanye West, Rick Rubin, Just Blaze and the Neptunes.

"I just wanted to have all those different flavours," revealed Jay-Z. "It was almost like a wish list of all the different people I wanted to work with before I go."
