9th Wonder
While Jay-Z's Black Album was initially slated to have 12 songs from 12 different producers, new information has surfaced that Hov has been seeking other beatmakers, including newcomer 9th Wonder of breakout rap group, Little Brother, to lay the foundation for his reported final opus.
Earlier this summer, SOHH.com obtained from sources a mysterious poster which appeared to be a mockup advertisement for the forthcoming Black Album. At the top of the somber photo, which also featured an old-school track recorder, read the phrase "12 Songs, 12 Producers." The exclusive dozen included early contributors such as DJ Premier and Ski, Roc-A-Fella's in-house beat wizards Just Blaze and Kanye West as well as longtime collaborators Timbaland and The Neptunes. Meanwhile, new additions included pioneer Rick Rubin and Cali's perpetually slept on, DJ Quik.
Yet, word on the street is that Little Brother producer 9th Wonder was recently in the lab with Hova. Just last week, group member Phonte posted a Little Brother update on the Okayplayer.com site. The emcee revealed that the group's producer was indeed working with the god emcee. However, it is still uncertain whether 9th's contributions will make the final cut or not.
In other Jay-Z news, fans rushed to purchase tickets for Jay-Z's Madison Square Garden farewell this weekend- resulting in a sell out crowd in a matter of hours. Tickets went on sale Saturday September 27 at 9.A.M and were already sold out by the end of the business day.
The concert is set to jump start Jay's victory lap as well as promote The Black Album. Furthermore, the LP will be released on Black Friday, November 28 and will coincide with Young's "Black Book" autobiography and the release of his black S. Carter Reebok sneaker collection.
Partial proceeds from the show will be donated to Jay-Z's Shawn Carter Scholarship fund and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.
