Lazy Ass Post Here's something I founded. I didn't type it so don't give me credit: Jay-Z @ M.E.N. Arena
THERE was a poignant moment when Jay-Z asked the M.E.N. Arena crowd to hold their lighters in the air and pay tribute to hip hop's fallen idols.
Admittedly, in essence, this was nothing new. It's the kind of touching gesture that has come to mark nearly every rap and R&B concert in recent years.
But, then, lest we forget, this was Jay-Z calling the shots. Rap's driving force since the tragic deaths of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., not some half-bit rapper trying to whip saddened fans into an emotional frenzy for his own satisfaction.
There was no pretence here. This was heartfelt and the 10,000-strong crowd knew it. In fact, taking a minute to remember two greats like Tupac and Biggie makes you realise just how lucky we are to still have someone like Jay-Z around. Rap doesn't have many truly remarkable figures left these days, but this is one of them.
